We Buy Souls: A Psycho-Social Experiment in Corporate Belief
We Buy Souls is a performance lecture in which artist Rabi presents a fictional corporate soul-acquisition company that evolved into a functioning conceptual artwork. Blending satire, design, and lived experience, the talk follows how staged contracts, advertising campaigns, and audience participation blurred the boundary between performance and reality.
What begins as a commentary on branding, belief, and value becomes a reflection on identity, ownership, and spiritual erosion within late-capitalist culture, revealing how easily people submit to systems that treat them primarily as consumers, data, or followers.
Part dark comedy and part cultural critique, the talk examines a world where corporate systems operate with the emotional logic of religion and loyalty is cultivated through repetition, spectacle, and promise, inviting audiences to question the price of belonging and the persistent human need to believe in something larger than themselves.
